Eighth annual Turkeys for Troops provides 2,000 free turkeys to military families
CLARKSVILLE, TN – The eighth annual Turkeys for Troops event was held this past Saturday at Ajax Distributing, where thousands of military families received free Thanksgiving turkeys. A total of 2,000 frozen turkeys were available for distribution this year.
Although the event began at 8:00am, families were already arriving in the early morning hours. In fact, the first person in line showed up at 3:00am, marking their second consecutive year being first to arrive.
Turkeys for Troops provides free frozen turkeys to active-duty service members, veterans, military spouses, and their families as a heartfelt show of appreciation for their service. Since launching in 2018, the event has grown tremendously, outgrowing its original downtown Clarksville location and moving to Ajax Distributing in 2023 to better accommodate the increasing demand.
This year’s event continued to highlight the strength and unity of the Clarksville community. Brigadier General Travis McIntosh thanked the volunteers and sponsors for their dedication and support, emphasizing how meaningful this event is to military families each holiday season.
Legends Bank was honored to once again sponsor and support this event, with team members volunteering on-site to help distribute turkeys to military families throughout the Clarksville community. Working side by side with fellow volunteers, our team helped ensure thousands of families received a Thanksgiving meal just in time for the holiday, a tradition we are proud to continue each year.
Charlie Koon, Legends Bank SVP, Community & Business/Military Development Manager, has been a key organizer since the event’s inception. His leadership has helped guide Turkeys for Troops into a cherished community tradition.
“Turkeys for Troops is an incredible way for our community to show appreciation for the sacrifices of our military families,” said Koon. “We’re proud to be part of an event that brings people together to give back.”
This year’s success was made possible through the collaboration of dedicated sponsors, including Ajax Distributing, Legends Bank, Serra Chevrolet, LifePoint Church, Queen City Disposal, Z95, Beaver100.3FM, Clarksville Conversations, and many others whose support reflects the spirit of gratitude and generosity that defines the Clarksville community.
